Mandy Harrington - Manager/Director
I started my hairdressing career in a small country town 23 year ago.  I am the Manager and Company Director of HQ Academy.  I spend a lot of my time working on funding, compliance, programme development, mentoring and marketing.  I also teach Hairdressing from Levels 1 and 2 through to Level 4.  I am hugely passionate about hairdressing and the Academy and love meeting new people.

Julie Costello - Tutor

Wow – 25 years and still going strong!!  Hairdressing is a career that can open many doors.  Behind each door are new skills, challenges, choices and opportunities.

Opening the “Tutor Door” and working with Full Time trainees and currently with Off Job Training Apprentices has enabled me to train and pass on my knowledge, skills and experience to the upcoming successful stylists of the future.  What a FAB feeling!!!

Diane Griffin - Tutor

Starting out at hairdressing at the age of 16 has been great.  It has helped me grow through my life allowing me to achieve many wonderful things and now has lead me to tutoring.  Working with young people and helping them start their journey through life has been met with lots of satisfaction over the last three years that I have been at the Academy.

Jo Gerrand - Tutor

I have been hairdressing for 27 years, 25 in Taranaki.  I moved down to Dunedin in 2006 and worked in a couple of local salons.  I started at Headquarters in January as the Salon Educator and then have moved to tutoring full time in April.  I am currently doing my Assessing Qualification.

Grant Mahy – Salon Manager / Educator

I have been hairdressing for 27 years as well as having other interests.  I have worked in small boutique salons as well as massive salons.  I have been self employed for several years, and like the one on one approach, however working at the Academy Salon reminded me how great it is to work with other creative people.  I insist on good manners.  One of the biggest rewards for me is when a client says to the trainees ‘Thank you, I love my hair, you’ve made me feel very special, I will be back’.  Neat aye.  Hairdressing is a fantastic job and a very emotional job.  The rewards are knowing you have made that persons day – just by being nice
